Theatre Arts I-IV and Theatre Productions I-IV

Director - Patty MacMullen

The Connally High School Theatre Arts program offers a variety of theatre arts activities, basic theatre knowledge and skills, and performance opportunities. The Theatre Arts program is a twenty-four week program and currently has students enrolled in Theatre Arts I, II, III, and IV. Theatre Productions I-IV is offered the last twelve weeks of school.

The goal of the theatre arts program at CHS is to encourage an appreciation of the arts, enhance a student's basic knowledge and skills in theatre, develop self-confidence, encourage creative expression, provide performance opportunities in and out of the classroom, and develop a sense of team work and creative problem solving and critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged, but not required, to get involved in extra-curricular theatre activities. Opportunities out of the classroom setting include fall productions, musical theatre productions, UIL one act play contest production, drama club membership, International Thespian Society membership, the Texas state thespian festivial, community service projects, workshops, competitions and scholarships through the thespian festival, attend theatre productions, possible advancement to compete at the International Thespian Festival at the University of Nebraska, UIL workshops and clinics, workshops in leadership and makeup at CHS, UIL super conference, cast parties, awards, working in the Connally Performing Arts Center, and a trip to New York. Opportunities in the classroom include learning about and/or participating in physical and vocal warm-ups, stage movement, pantomime, improvisation, monologues, acting scenes, playwrighting, theatre history, characterization, technical theatre, reading a variety of play scripts, evaluation of productions, and journal writing.

Technical Theatre

Technical Director - Jason Bradshaw

The Connally High School Technical Theatre Program strives to create theatre technicians proficient in technical theatre production. Students get hands on experience in our fully equipped Performing Arts Center. Currently we offer 2 levels of Technical theatre classes:

Introduction to Technical Theatre introduces students to the basics of technical theatre production including theatre safety, set construction, lighting, sound for the stage, box office and publicity, costume and makeup, and stage management.

Advanced Technical Theatre covers the above mentioned areas with more depth and complexity as well as focusing on the role of designers in the production process.
