Connally Fine Arts Department provides students with two
areas of study in the theatrical
arts: Theatre Arts/Theatre Productions or Technical Theatre.
Students may choose a course of study in either or both of
these Fine

The Connally High School Theatre Arts program offers a
variety of theatre arts activities, basic theatre knowledge
and skills, and performance opportunities. The Theatre
Arts program is a twenty-four week program and currently
has students enrolled in Theatre Arts I, II, III, and IV.
Theatre Productions I-IV is offered the last twelve weeks
of school.
The goal of the theatre arts program at CHS is to encourage
an appreciation of the arts, enhance a student's basic
knowledge and skills in theatre, develop self-confidence,
encourage creative expression, provide performance opportunities
in and out of the classroom, and develop a sense of team
work and creative problem solving and critical thinking
skills. Students are encouraged, but not required, to get
involved in extra-curricular theatre activities. Opportunities
out of the classroom setting include fall productions,
musical theatre productions, UIL one act play contest production,
drama club membership, International Thespian Society membership,
the Texas state thespian festivial, community service projects,
workshops, competitions and scholarships through the thespian
festival, attend theatre productions, possible advancement
to compete at the International Thespian Festival at the
University of Nebraska, UIL workshops and clinics, workshops
in leadership and makeup at CHS, UIL super conference,
cast parties, awards, working in the Connally Performing
Arts Center, and a trip to New York. Opportunities in the
classroom include learning about and/or participating in
physical and vocal warm-ups, stage movement, pantomime,
improvisation, monologues, acting scenes, playwrighting,
theatre history, characterization, technical theatre, reading
a variety of play scripts, evaluation of productions, and
journal writing.

| The Connally High School Technical Theatre Program strives
to create theatre technicians proficient in technical theatre
production. Students get hands on experience in our fully equipped
Performing Arts Center. Currently we offer 2 levels of Technical
theatre classes:
Introduction to Technical Theatre introduces students to
the basics of technical theatre production including theatre
safety, set construction, lighting, sound for the stage,
box office and publicity, costume and makeup, and stage management.
Advanced Technical Theatre covers the above mentioned areas
with more depth and complexity as well as focusing on the
role of designers in the production process.
